POWER ENGINEERING 5TH CLASS – BASIC BUILDING OPERATIONS

This course focuses on all aspects of heating plant operation. It will be of interest to anyone operating or maintaining a heating plant in a school, apartment building, or similar setting. This is a study class (approved by the Fire Commissioner's Office of Manitoba) and will prepare students to write the provincial exam. This is a study class (approved by the Fire Commissioner's Office of Manitoba) and will prepare students to write the provincial exam. 450 practicum hours are earned by achieving a 65% pass in the study class after which time you are eligible to write the provincial exam. Each participant is responsible for arranging their own additional 450 practical boiler hours. Requirements: Basic math skills and working knowledge of English are essential to successful completion of this course.

Each participant is required to have textbooks by the first session. The text books can be ordered from the Red River College Bookstore, Notre Dame Campus, 204.632.2351.

A mark statement will be issued upon completion of the course.

Power Engineering 4th Class - Part B

Topics include: applied mathematics; element mechanics and dynamics; elementary thermodynamics; mechanical drawing, administration; industrial legislation; workplace hazardous materials; plant safety; plant fire protection; environment; material and welding; piping and valves; high pressure boiler design; parts and fittings and operation; feed water treatment; prime movers and engines; pumps and compressors. The instructor will address textbooks in the first class.
